With Tokyo Olympics 2021, Wiki Loves Sport begins

The 2020 Summer Olympics which was postponed; kickstarted with an opening ceremony in Tokyo on Friday, 23 July 2021. With this, the third edition of Wiki Loves Sport has started till 5th of September 2021 to improve and extend the content related to sport in general (Olympic & Paralympic Games in particular). Wikipedians from any language of Wikipedia are invited to participate.

Wiki Loves Sport is the first multi-language and cross-wiki campaign that encourage the participation and promotes creation of contents about (not exclusively) women, non-binary and para-athletes in Wikimedia projects.

This contest is organized to fill Wikipedia content gaps based on gender, linguistic and ethnic minorities, etc. The contest is organized by WikiDonne User Group. The main motive is to improve the free knowledge about sport (with a special focus on women, LGBT+ communities, minorities and underrepresented groups), the Olympic & Paralympic games in all languages.

On it’s first edition, 117 new articles were created, 153 articles were edited with overall 1.01K total edits coming from 19 editors across Wikimedia movement.

Camelia Boban, AffCom member and Co-founder of WikiDonne User Group has brought this Wikipedia online writing contest in June 2019.
